TISS has contributed immensely to our country's development by creating high-quality professionals since 1936. Over the years, TISS has extended its footprints to newer areas and has been nourishing talent and creating high quality professionals who are making a difference in the sector they work in. The alums of TISS have been providing their professional services to improve the quality of lives of people. The Alums have great potential to contribute to the mutual benefits of our institute and students.

Few of professors and TISS Alums had put their effort for promoting alums engagement in their personal capacity. Few of groups/ batches/ schools were undertaking some or other alumni related activities. However, there is little organised effort for strengthening alumni across the globe. During 75th year platinum jubilee celebration in TISS, alums and TISS had deliberation to come up with a plan for strengthening alumni. Collectively, it was decided to establish an organisation to represent alums across the courses, campuses and batches. The organisation should be led by alumni with support and cooperation of the TISS.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences Alums Association (TISSAA) is a registered not-for-profit organisation incorporated in 2013 under the provisions of the Bombay Public Trust Act and Societies Registration Act. TISSAA is the Association of Alums across courses, batches and campuses.
